Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has ordered a full-scale investigation into the killings in Akinlalu, Ife North Local Government Area, involving operatives of the Amotekun security outfit.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the governor expressed deep shock at the tragic incident, commiserated with families who lost loved ones, and prayed for God to comfort them.
Adeleke vowed to unearth the root of the deadly encounter, announcing that a high-powered government delegation, alongside security chiefs, would visit Akinlalu after the state security council meeting on Monday.
Members of the delegation include the Special Adviser on Security Matters to the governor, the Commissioner for Information, the Commissioner for Political Affairs, the Commissioner for Transportation, the Attorney-General of the State, the Special Adviser on Legal Matters, as well as service chiefs of the various security agencies.
“I am a rule-of-law governor. This matter is being investigated and any infraction will be dealt with within the context of the law. I have ordered a security council meeting on this incident and others, such as fears of spillover from Kwara banditry attacks,” Adeleke said.
He also urged residents of Akinlalu to remain calm as his government acts on the matter.
