The Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, on Wednesday presented cash awards to top-performing students in the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in the state.
Speaking during the presentation at the maiden Imole SSCE Scholarship Award Ceremony organised by Electronic Collections Group (ECG) in collaboration with the Osun State Ministry of Education, the governor said the initiative was aimed at rewarding hard work and inspiring students to strive for excellence.
He said, “We gather not just to celebrate achievement, but to light a path. We are raising a generation that will not walk in darkness. We honour excellence from the grassroots to the peak. To our awardees, you are that light. But your light must shine beyond this stage, into your future.”
Adeleke commended teachers, school administrators and the Ministry of Education for their contributions to the success of the students, while also acknowledging the support of ECG for partnering with the state government.
Earlier, the Coordinator of ECG, Akinmade Akintoye, said the programme would be held annually to encourage students, teachers and schools to better nurture future leaders.
Akintoye noted that the list of awardees was sourced directly from the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) headquarters, adding that the initiative aligns with the governor’s education agenda.
No fewer than 31 students from across all the local government areas in the state benefitted from the awards. Each of the best students, drawn from each of the 30 local government areas of the state, was rewarded with N100,000, while the overall best student received N1 million.
Also, teachers who taught the students in all nine WAEC subjects were given N50,000, while the schools that produced the students received packages, including educational materials.
