Adeleke tasks monarchs to guard borders against bandits
By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has directed traditional rulers in border communities of the state to be vigilant and report any suspicious infiltration by alleged bandits from neighbouring states to security agencies.
Speaking after a state security council meeting held in Osogbo, the governor urged traditional councils across the state to promptly report strange settlers who may have entered their territories to the authorities.
Adeleke, in a statement signed by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, warned that this is not the time to allow mass internal migration into Osun communities, given the ongoing banditry crisis in states bordering Osun. He charged community leaders and stakeholders to report all suspicious movements.
He said, “Osun is one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria. We are keen to sustain that record. We should watch our borders. Bandits should not be allowed to infiltrate Osun State.”
The governor expressed satisfaction that the security council has mapped out an effective plan of action to prevent bandits from gaining a foothold in the state, commending his security team and the various service commanders.
Adeleke specifically praised the Agbooro community in Ikirun for working with security agencies to ensure that a group of Bororo settlers who recently occupied parts of their community peacefully vacated the area.
“I commend the security agencies and the Akinrun-in-Council for acting promptly to resolve the matter. Our border towns should emulate this step and adopt open surveillance in partnership with the security agencies,” the governor stated.
