Feared hoodlum ‘Officer Koi’ arrested in Ondo, weapons recovered

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two armed suspects, including a notorious hoodlum popularly known as Officer Koi, following a violent attack that left three persons injured in Idanre town.

Police spokesperson DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola said in a statement that the arrest was made after officers of the Idanre Division acted swiftly on credible intelligence received in the early hours of October 6, 2025.

The statement identified the suspects as Abimbo Rotimi, 35, also known as Officer Koi, and his accomplice, Joseph Innocent, 28, both residents of Ehinpeti Street, Idanre.

According to the police, the duo allegedly stormed a local shop and a nearby residence, attacking their victims with a pistol, knife, and other dangerous weapons.

During the assault, one Henry was stabbed on the fingers, and Abimbola Sunday sustained a bite injury on her lower lip, while a commercial motorcyclist, Akinduko Akinbobola, was stabbed on the head. All victims were later taken to the hospital for treatment.

Following a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer in Idanre led a rapid response team to the area. Although the suspects had fled, a coordinated manhunt led to their arrest and the recovery of one locally made pistol, one kitchen knife, two pairs of scissors and an axe.

The case, according to the statement, has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, commended the Idanre Police team for their professionalism, describing the operation as proof of the Command’s commitment to the Inspector General of Police’s Renewed Hope policing agenda, which prioritises intelligence-led operations and community partnership.

He assured residents of continuous protection of lives and property while urging the public to remain vigilant and share credible information that could help prevent crime across the state. z
