AFCON: Salah leads Egypt to 3-2 quarter-final win over Ivory Coast
Egypt edged closer to an Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title as captain Mohamed Salah inspired his side to a thrilling 3-2 victory over defending champions Ivory Coast in the quarter-finals on Saturday.
Salah opened the scoring for Egypt, with teammates Omar Marmoush and Ramy Rabia adding further goals. Ivory Coast managed a goal from an own goal by Ahmed Aboul-Fetouh before half-time, and Guela Doue pulled one back after the break.
However, Salah’s second goal secured the win, sending Egypt through to a semi-final clash against Senegal.
The match, played at the Grand Stadium in Agadir, showcased an intense battle between two of Africa’s football powerhouses, keeping fans on the edge of their seats until the final whistle.
