Afcon U-20: Zubairu admits game against Kenya was difficult

Flying Eagles’ head coach, Aliyu Zubairu, admitted his side were stretched to the limit by Kenya in Wednesday’s match.
He also acknowledged the disappointment felt by Nigerian fans following the team’s 2-2 draw with the Kenyans, despite securing qualification to the next round of the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
The Nigerian team had to come from behind twice to salvage a point in their final group-stage match against the Rising Stars of Kenya.
Speaking after the encounter, Zubairu admitted the match was a tough contest, revealing what really motivated the Kenyans’ performance.
“It was not an easy match. Kenya had lost their first two games and were determined not to leave the tournament without a win. That made the game very difficult. Still, it was a good contest,” he said.
The gaffer also spoke on the concerns of fans regarding the result, saying, “I understand why many Nigerians might be disappointed, especially considering the opponent. But the most important thing is that we’ve qualified for the quarter-finals, and that objective has been achieved.”
Meanwhile, the Nigerian side has been handed a tough quarter-final draw, as they will be facing one of Africa’s best in this category, Senegal.
