AfrexInsure appoints Lesley Ndlovu as CEO

AfrexInsure, the specialty insurance subsidiary of African Export-Import Bank, has appointed Lesley Ndlovu as its new Chief Executive Officer.
The appointment, announced in Cairo on Monday, sees Ndlovu take over from Jonas Mushosho as the company expands its specialty insurance services for trade and investment across Africa.
AfrexInsure said the leadership change comes at a critical stage in its growth, requiring strong direction in governance, regulatory compliance, innovation and risk management.
Ndlovu, a Zimbabwean national, brings experience from global insurance firms, including AXA Specialty, African Risk Capacity and AXIS Capital.
The company noted that the appointment marks its transition from a start-up to a scale-up phase, aimed at strengthening trade and investment risk solutions across the continent.
It added that Africa’s trade sector faces constraints such as limited risk capacity, high insurance costs and reliance on offshore underwriting, which the new leadership is expected to address.
Speaking on his appointment, Ndlovu said, “I am deeply honoured to assume the role of Chief Executive Officer at AfrexInsure at this transformative juncture in the company’s journey, and I look forward to strengthening Africa’s trade ecosystem through effective, locally anchored risk solutions.”
Also commenting, Afreximbank President, George Elombi, expressed confidence that Ndlovu would advance AfrexInsure’s mandate of managing trade risks and supporting economic growth across Africa.
