African corporates to gain AfCFTA trade insights at Cairo training programme

African corporates will have an opportunity to strengthen their understanding of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) at the third edition of the AfCFTA Training Programme scheduled to hold in Cairo, Egypt, from June 16 to June 18, 2026.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), the programme is being organised in collaboration with the American University in Cairo (AUC) and the AfCFTA Secretariat. It is aimed at equipping participants with practical skills to navigate Africa’s evolving intra-African trade environment.

Despite the AfCFTA’s potential to boost economic growth across the continent, the statement noted that limited understanding of its technical provisions has continued to hinder its full implementation. It added that the training seeks to address this gap by exposing participants to practical and actionable trade knowledge.

Participants will be trained on identifying trade opportunities, managing import and export operations, and understanding trade finance, supply chains and the wider international trade environment.

The programme will also highlight how the AfCFTA framework expands market access for goods and services while addressing capacity constraints faced by businesses across Africa.

Afreximbank, as a key partner in implementing the AfCFTA, has continued to drive initiatives aimed at promoting intra-African trade and investment, with capacity building playing a central role.

Speaking on the programme, Afreximbank’s Group Chief Economist, Dr. Yemi Kale, said, “This initiative is a strategic platform for advancing the adoption and deepening the understanding of the AfCFTA among key stakeholders, particularly corporates within the broader private sector ecosystem.”

He added that the initiative would help participants gain a comprehensive understanding of the agreement and position their businesses to take advantage of emerging opportunities across the continent.
