Indigenes of Agbaji community in Ilorin, Kwara State, have held a special prayer session, calling on divine intervention in the legal case involving former Senate President Bukola Saraki over the 2018 Offa bank robbery.

The Islamic prayer, which lasted over an hour on Wednesday, was led by the Chief Imam of Agbaji Central Mosque, Imam Abubakar Hakeebu, alongside other clerics in the community.

The prayer session was attended by residents and members of the Agbaji Development Association, who expressed concern over the ongoing legal proceedings.

In a statement read after the session by the association’s National General Secretary, Mohammed Ghali Jamiu, the group alleged that the case had gone beyond the pursuit of justice.

“We have watched with growing anger and deep concern recent developments involving Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq,” Jamiu said, describing the situation as politically motivated.

The group further claimed that the legal action was part of a calculated attempt to tarnish the image of Saraki and his family, warning against what it termed a smear campaign.

They also called on the Emir of Ilorin, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, to urgently intervene and restore calm among the parties involved.

The community urged Islamic scholars to intensify prayers for peace, stressing that Ilorin Emirate must not be drawn into avoidable conflict or political tension.
