Afropop star Davido ends legal battle for daughter Imade

Renowned Afrobeats musician David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has announced his decision to withdraw the custody case for his first child, Imade Adeleke.
Following the court hearing between Davido and his first baby mama, Sophia Momodu, the singer shared on Instagram details of the proceedings that led to his decision not to pursue the case. According to him, Sophia’s lawyer made an emotionally insensitive comment during the session, which triggered him.
Davido accused the lawyer of unprofessional conduct in court. He said he maintained his defence of joint custody during the argument until the lawyer crossed the line by referencing his late son, Ifeanyi Adeleke, which he found unacceptable.
The Afropop star and Sophia appeared in court on Friday for the hearing on the lawsuit demanding joint custody of Imade.
Reports indicate that the proceedings were going smoothly until Sophia’s lawyer questioned how Davido could guarantee Imade’s safety when he was unable to protect his late son, Ifeanyi, who passed away in October 2022.
Davido reportedly lost his composure at the comment and confronted the lawyer in the courtroom. The proceedings were briefly suspended. When the court reconvened, Davido was asked to apologise to both the court and the lawyer, which he refused, stating that he could never apologise for the reference to his deceased son.
In an Instagram post, Davido said no one won in the case and that the only person who lost was Imade.
He wrote: “I’ve decided to drop the case because when I was spanking that lawyer in the courtroom, she would get so frustrated… because normally I finish school… I was finishing her… until she brought out her last card! My deceased son! That’s a no-no! Lowest blow! My daughter will grow up knowing I fought for her… let’s move on. One love!”
