The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Chief Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), on Friday paid a courtesy visit to the Olubadan-designate, Oba (Sen.) Rashidi Ladoja, at his residence in Ibadan. The meeting underscored the importance of strengthening ties between traditional rulers and the federal government to promote peace and development.
Speaking after the meeting, Fagbemi congratulated the people of Ibadan on Ladoja’s emergence, noting that his wealth of experience as a businessman, lawmaker, and former governor would add significant value to his reign. He described the Olubadan-designate as a leader whose diverse background could offer fresh perspectives to traditional leadership.
“As an indigene of Ibadan, I am proud to see someone with such vast experience ascend the throne. His record in politics, business, and governance cannot be overlooked. It is a blessing for Ibadanland,” the AGF said.
Fagbemi also pledged support for grassroots initiatives aligned with the monarch’s vision. He recalled his efforts to promote local government autonomy at the Supreme Court and promised to help ensure that federal policies effectively reach the grassroots.
In response, Oba Ladoja commended the AGF, describing him as an upright public servant. The former governor urged him to remain connected to his roots as he serves the country in its highest legal office.
Reflecting on the state of Nigerian politics, Ladoja expressed concern that many politicians now prioritize personal gain over public service. However, he praised President Bola Tinubu for maintaining focus in the face of political distractions and challenges.
As Ibadan awaits the formal installation of Oba Ladoja, there is growing optimism that the synergy between the Olubadan’s office and the federal government will translate into peace, progress, and improved welfare for the people of Ibadanland.
