The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a driver in Ibadan who was found in possession of unlicensed firearms and other dangerous items. The arrest occurred during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Adewale Osifeso, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday. He said the operation was part of intelligence-driven patrols across highways, major roads, and intersections in the state aimed at combating criminal activities.

According to Osifeso, the incident took place on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at about 9:11 p.m., when operatives of the Federal Highway Patrol stopped a Toyota bus with registration number AFZ 933 XA at the Toll Gate. Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered two locally-made single-barrel firearms, two new short machetes, and 20 live cartridges.

The police spokesperson added that the driver failed to present a valid driver’s licence or vehicle documents at the point of arrest. He was immediately taken into custody, along with the bus and its contents.

Osifeso also revealed that other operations conducted earlier in the week yielded additional results. On Wednesday, September 17, 2025, police recovered a stolen Toyota Camry with registration number LSD 957 JX along the Ogbomoso–Iseyin Road. During the same operation, officers reportedly found human flesh concealed inside a suspect’s hand luggage in a commercial bus.

“These incidents illustrate the effectiveness of our targeted strategies against vehicle theft and other illicit activities,” the statement read.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, commended the officers for their efforts and reassured residents of the command’s commitment to sustaining intelligence-led security operations. He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities.

For emergencies, the command advised residents to contact the Oyo State Call Response Center via the toll-free line 615 or reach the police control room on 08081768614, 09054133071, or 09061299291.
