The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi has hailed President Bola Tinubu for signing the Judicial Office Holders’ Salaries and Allowances Bill, 2024, into law, addressing a long-standing demand for improved conditions of service for judicial officers in Nigeria.
The AGF who spoke after the signing on Tuesday, described the president’s assent to the bill as a “historic moment” for the judiciary. In his statement, Fagbemi emphasized that judicial officers across the country had been on the same salary for nearly two decades, making this development a significant milestone.
Fagbemi also highlighted President Tinubu’s consistent commitment to reforming the administration of justice in Nigeria, noting that the salary review is a critical component of these broader reforms.
“The review of judicial remuneration is a crucial first step towards achieving a judicial system that truly serves the interests of all Nigerians,” Fagbemi stated.
He further assured that his ministry, in collaboration with other stakeholders in the justice sector, would continue working to identify and resolve additional issues aimed at strengthening the judiciary.
Fagbemi also expressed his gratitude to the 10th National Assembly for their swift passage of the bill, commending their dedication to addressing the needs of the judiciary and its officers.
