‘Aggrieved like a jilted lover’ — Momodu hits Baba-Ahmed over ADC remarks

Dele Momodu, publisher of Ovation magazine, has criticised Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Labour Party (LP) vice-presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, describing him as “aggrieved” and likening his actions to those of a jilted lover.

Momodu’s comments followed Baba-Ahmed’s recent criticism of members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition.

On Wednesday, while declaring his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election, Baba-Ahmed described members of the ADC as “disgruntled politicians” and referred to some former LP members who defected to the party as “political travellers”.

Reacting on Thursday during an appearance on Sunrise Daily, a Channels Television programme, Momodu said he was surprised by Baba-Ahmed’s attacks on fellow politicians, stressing that politics should not be driven by personal grievances or emotional reactions.

“He has a right to say anything, but I am very surprised by how he talks down on other politicians,” Momodu said.

According to him, Baba-Ahmed is free to pursue his presidential ambition but must recognise that the Labour Party no longer enjoys the same momentum it had during the 2023 elections.

“He knows that today the Labour Party is not what it was in the last election,” Momodu said, adding that Baba-Ahmed’s frustration stems from the realisation that his ambitions may not be accommodated within emerging political coalitions.

“I’m not bothered at all. He is an aggrieved person; he’s like a jilted lover. He ran with Peter Obi the last time and would expect to run again, but they should not turn themselves into serial contestants,” he said.
