Aiyedatiwa commissions 10 ambulances, boosts security with patrol vehicles in Ondo

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on Friday commissioned 10 ambulances, received 10 patrol vehicles for security agencies and presented official cars to newly appointed Permanent Secretaries at the Government House in Akure.

Speaking at the event, the governor emphasised that effective healthcare delivery goes beyond policy statements and the construction of hospital buildings. He said quality medical services require access to genuine drugs and prompt transportation of patients to health facilities.

Aiyedatiwa noted that the state’s pharmaceutical group had ensured the supply of quality, unadulterated drugs, while ongoing road construction and rehabilitation projects would reduce travel time. He added that local government councils are grading rural roads, with the state providing ambulances and tricycles to support primary healthcare services.

Highlighting the importance of rapid emergency response, the governor said the newly commissioned ambulances would ensure swift evacuation of victims from homes and accident scenes to hospitals, especially in cases of road crashes.

He also disclosed that a GNC survey aimed at equipping hospitals is currently at the benchmarking stage before the State Executive Council, and commended medical personnel across the state for their dedication.

On security, Aiyedatiwa revealed that Sunbeth Global Concept, led by Olasunkanmi Owoeye, donated 10 Toyota Hilux high-grade vehicles to strengthen security operations. The vehicles will be deployed to the police, civil defence, the military, the air force, airport services and the anti-land-grabbing task force.

The governor urged the security agencies to use the vehicles strictly for official duties. He also presented official cars to Permanent Secretaries, describing civil servants as the engine room of government and stressing that incentives are necessary to boost performance.

In their remarks, the Head of Service, Bayo Philip, said the distribution marked the second phase of vehicle allocation, while the Commissioner for Health, Dr Banji Ajaka, disclosed that the ambulance fleet includes three advanced life-support and five basic medical units.
