Aiyedatiwa pledges priority funding for education, infrastructure, security in Akungba Akoko

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the development of all state-owned institutions, assuring residents of Akungba Akoko that infrastructure, education, and security projects in their community would receive priority attention.

The governor made the pledge on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by the Alale of Akungba, Oba Isiaka Oseni Adu, and other community leaders to his office in Akure. He emphasised that state institutions, including universities, polytechnics, and other tertiary bodies, would receive adequate funding to sustain quality education and operational efficiency.

Acknowledging that institutions had submitted requests for increased running grants and additional resources, Governor Aiyedatiwa said government funds were limited but assured that urgent and critical needs would remain a priority. “Everybody is asking for more,” he said, noting that universities, ministries, workers, and communities all have legitimate demands that require careful balancing.

He added that measures are being taken to curb financial leakages and improve revenue generation, which would allow the release of more funds for development, particularly in the education sector. The governor highlighted Ondo State’s long-standing reputation for educational excellence as a guiding principle for his administration’s policies.

Turning to local infrastructure, Governor Aiyedatiwa highlighted ongoing projects, including the multi-billion-naira Akungba–Ikare road dualisation, describing it as critical for economic growth, road safety, and the welfare of the university community. He also discussed the relocation and rehabilitation of Atiba Market, promising that it would be transformed into a central facility serving the wider community.

On security, the governor assured residents that measures had been implemented to ensure Akungba remains safe and pledged sustained attention to maintaining peace and order.

Earlier, Oba Isiaka Oseni Adu commended the governor for his administration’s impactful interventions in the community, including the Akungba–Ikare road, Okusa Basic Health Centre, and Atiba Market. The monarch also called for greater inclusion of qualified sons and daughters of Akungba in the state civil service and urged enhanced funding and oversight for Adekunle Ajasin University to complement the introduction of new professional courses.

Oba Oseni Adu expressed appreciation for the provision of modern vehicles to traditional rulers across the state, describing the gesture as a clear demonstration of the government’s support for local leadership.
