Aiyedatiwa signs Ondo 2026 ‘Budget of Economic Consolidation’ into law

Ondo State Governor, Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, on Monday signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill, tagged the Budget of Economic Consolidation, into law at the Executive Council Chamber of the Governor’s Office in Akure.

The governor described the signing as more than a statutory requirement, saying it reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the progress, stability and sustainable development of Ondo State.

The 2026 budget totals ₦524.41 billion, with ₦220.83 billion allocated to recurrent expenditure, representing 42.11 per cent, and ₦303.58 billion set aside for capital expenditure, accounting for 57.89 per cent.

Aiyedatiwa disclosed that the budget was designed to respond to current national economic realities while positioning the state for self-reliance, resilience and long-term prosperity, with major allocations to agriculture, education, health, infrastructure, justice administration, public finance and energy.

He noted that priority areas include agriculture and food security through support for farmers and modern farming practices, as well as human capital development via investments in education, skills acquisition and digital training.

The governor also explained that the budget would drive infrastructure and economic transformation through road, power and water projects, while efforts would continue to expand internally generated revenue through transparent, technology-driven tax systems and the elimination of leakages.

He commended the Ondo State House of Assembly for the expeditious passage of the budget, while Speaker of the House, Rt Hon Olamide Oladiji, praised the governor’s development strides and outlined recent legislative achievements.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Olaolu Akindolire, described the budget as strategic and people-focused, noting projected revenues from assistance, grants and internally generated funds, alongside plans to borrow ₦72.92 billion for development-related projects.
