Akor Adams dedicates AFCON goal to recuperating mother

By Tosin Omojola –

Super Eagles forward Akor Adams has dedicated his first goal at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to his mother, who is recuperating from illness.

The striker provided two assists and scored Nigeria’s final goal in the 4-0 victory over Mozambique in Monday’s second-round tie.

However, unknown to many, Adams featured in the match despite being informed that his mother had been hospitalised.

Speaking after the encounter, the striker dedicated the goal to his mother, whom he said was hospitalised before the game but has since been discharged.

Meanwhile, Adams has left the team’s camp after the game, according to an update shared on the team’s official X page. It is unclear whether he will return in time to be available for the quarter-final clash against Algeria on Saturday in Marrakesh.

The brief statement confirmed that Adams was granted permission to be with his mother.

“Akor Adams has been granted permission to leave camp to go be with his mum, who was hospitalised yesterday.

“We’re sending prayers and strength to him and wishing his mum a quick recovery,” it read.
