A few days after parting ways with Enzo Maresca, London club Chelsea have confirmed the appointment of Liam Rosenior as his replacement.

Rosenior has been handed a six-year contract to pilot the Blues.

A statement by Chelsea said the focus would “continue to be on player development”, while stressing that the club’s “expectations and ambitions remain high”.

The new boss expressed pride at being given the role, describing the appointment as a major moment in his career.

“To be entrusted with this role means the world to me,” he said. “I will give everything to bring success to this club.”

The former defender added that while he holds strong affection for his previous club, the opportunity to manage Chelsea was impossible to refuse.

“I will love this club for the rest of my life, but I cannot turn down Chelsea,” Rosenior said.

Rosenior arrives at Stamford Bridge after coaching overseas with RC Strasbourg, where he led the French club to European qualification for the first time in 19 years in his first season, following earlier roles in England with Hull City and Derby County.
