The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has lauded President Bola Tinubu for assenting to bills establishing three new federal institutions in the South-East region.
According to the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), President Tinubu signed into law the bills for the creation of the Federal College of Education, Bende, Abia State; the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Item, Bende, Abia State; and the Federal University, Okigwe, Imo State.
Senator Akpabio also praised the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu—who sponsored two of the bills—alongside other key legislators, including the Deputy Whip of the Senate, Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi; Deputy Minority Whip, Senator Osita Ngwu; and Senator Patrick Ndubueze, who sponsored one of the bills. He commended their leadership, dedication, and commitment to the welfare of their constituents.
In a statement, the Senate President noted that the establishment of these institutions reflects the commitment of the National Assembly and the executive to the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration.
He emphasised that the new institutions are expected to boost access to quality education and healthcare, provide research opportunities, and drive socio-economic development in the South-East.
Senator Akpabio described the move as a significant milestone in the effort to improve educational and health outcomes for the region and the country at large.
