Akwa Ibom approves new projects, fiscal plan, food programme in exco meeting
The Akwa Ibom State Executive Council has approved a number of key initiatives aimed at enhancing infrastructure, fiscal responsibility, and social welfare in the state. The decisions were taken at its meeting held on Tuesday, at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Uyo, and presided over by Governor Umo Eno.
In line with the administration’s commitment to maintaining world-class facilities, the Council ratified the renewal of the maintenance contract with Julius Berger Plc for the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, extending it for an additional one year effective July 1, 2025.
The Council also approved a revised scope of work at Ewet Luxury Estate due to topographical challenges and updated architectural designs. Additionally, it endorsed the construction of 4.541km internal roads, including drains and walkways, at Dakkada Luxury Estate, Uyo.

To support efficient fiscal planning, the Council approved the Akwa Ibom State Medium-Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper (MTEF/FSP) for 2026–2028. The document will be forwarded to the State House of Assembly for legislative consideration.
Further resolutions included the formal adoption of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) policy, with a scheduled launch of the TSA platform, Akwaremit, and the land management platform, AkwaGIS, on September 1, 2025. These reforms aim to improve revenue efficiency and transparency.
The Executive Council approved the replacement of obsolete equipment in preparation for the Akwa Ibom Sports Festival and directed the Ministry of Sports to create a State Sports Assets Inventory System for proper management and maintenance.
In continuation of the ARISE Food Security Programme, the Council gave approval for Phase III of the Free Food Distribution Programme across all 31 Local Government Areas, commencing August 20, 2025. This is aimed at cushioning the impact of rising living costs on vulnerable residents.
The meeting also featured the adoption of the ARISE Socio-Economic Impact Framework, approval of sanitation projects in selected LGAs under the Open Defecation Free initiative, and a courtesy visit from the TETFund Board, in the state to commission projects at Akwa Ibom State University.
