Ila-Orangun chiefs divided over Senator Fadeyi’s defection to APC

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –
A rift has emerged among traditional chiefs in Ila-Orangun following the defection of Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Shortly after a communiqué was released by some Ila-Orangun chiefs led by High Chief R.A. Adedapo, the Elemona of Ila-Orangun, declaring support for Fadeyi’s move and backing President Bola Tinubu’s second-term ambition, another group of chiefs dissociated themselves from the statement.
Adedapo commended Senator Fadeyi’s performance and described his defection as timely and beneficial to the Ila-Orangun community and Osun Central Senatorial District.
The statement claimed Fadeyi’s move to the ruling party would help fast-track federal projects in the area, especially the completion of the Federal Government Power Sub-Station, and support the push for the creation of Igbomina State.
However, a counter-statement signed by High Chief Oyinlola Douglas, the Obalotin of Ila-Orangun, described the communiqué as impersonation and an insult to the personalities of the respected traditional chiefs of the town.
The opposing faction insisted that the Orangun of Ila, HRM Oba Abdulwahab Oyedotun (Bibire I), the traditional council, and Ila sons and daughters at home and abroad remain fully committed to Governor Ademola Adeleke and his re-election bid.
They cited Governor Adeleke’s ongoing dualisation of Ila-Orangun township roads and other infrastructural projects as evidence of his commitment to development.
The dissenting chiefs emphasised that their stance was based on the collective interest of the town, not political loyalty, stressing the importance of keeping traditional institutions above partisan politics.
