Akwa Ibom Commissioner resigns few hours after governor defects to APC

Few hours after the defection of the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ini Ememobong, one of the state’s cabinet members, has resigned.
Ememobong who was the state’s Commissioner for Special Duties, and Ibom Deep Sea Port, in a letter dated June 6, 2025, and addressed to the governor, said his resignation was in compliance with Eno’s directive that appointees unwilling to move with him from the PDP to the APC to quit.
“You have directed that any appointee who is unwilling to accompany you to switch from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress, should resign.
“Ipso facto, based on my personal conviction, I hereby most respectfully tender my resignation as Honourable Commissioner for Special Duties and Ibom Deep Sea Port and a member of the State Executive Council,” Ememobong said.
