The Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, has called on Nigerians to prioritise moral values as a foundation for national development.

In his Eid-al-Fitr message, the monarch warned that that Nigeria needs to strengthen its moral base as without a strong moral base, the country’s social, economic and political progress would be undermined.

He further expressed concern that a society driven by intellectual and scientific advancement, but lacking ethical principles, could lead to increased insecurity, fear and human suffering.

Oba Owoade said many of the nation’s challenges stem from the neglect of moral standards, noting that issues in both public and private life are largely rooted in the absence of values such as integrity, responsibility and accountability.

Addressing Muslims during the Eid-al-Fitr celebration, he urged them to uphold the teachings of Prophet Ibrahim by demonstrating total submission to the will of Allah, promoting charity and showing love to others.

The monarch added that embracing these principles would help address Nigeria’s challenges and ensure a more peaceful and stable society.
