Alaweje defends Tinubu, faults El-rufai’s remarks on APC defections
A political activist, Hon. Comrade Abdulhakeem Adegoke Alaweje, has advised former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, to focus on his personal well-being rather than criticising governors who have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Alaweje was reacting to El-Rufai’s recent remark that governors defecting to the APC were making “two fundamental mistakes.” He described the statement as unnecessary and reflective of frustration.
“It is surprising that a man of your experience would assume you know better than all the governors who have chosen their political direction. Leadership requires maturity and restraint, not bitterness,” Alaweje said.
He stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was a significant political force before El-Rufai joined active politics, adding that Tinubu played a key role in the formation of the APC and in El-Rufai’s political trajectory.
Alaweje also responded to El-Rufai’s claim that Islamic scholars had previously influenced his political decisions, noting that such interventions were made in good faith and in the interest of unity. However, he stressed that destiny ultimately rests with God.
“No one can escape the consequences of their actions. If it had been destined for you to serve in Tinubu’s government, it would have happened,” he added.
He urged the former governor to reflect on his political relationships, particularly with supporters at the grassroots level who, according to him, felt sidelined after contributing to his campaigns.
Alaweje concluded by praying for El-Rufai’s well-being and reaffirming his support for President Tinubu, expressing hope for continued progress and stability in the country.
