The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, on Friday urged stakeholders managing markets in Oyo State to implement effective safety measures and protocols to prevent disasters that lead to loss of lives and property.

He emphasized that proactive safety measures are the most effective way to avert such tragic incidents.

The monarch made the call while reacting to the fire outbreak that devastated several traders at Aleshinloye Market on Wednesday.

In a statement on Friday, he said: “I am deeply concerned about the frequent fire disasters in markets and other areas in Ibadan and across the state. These incidents are occurring too often. Market managers must develop and enforce stringent safety protocols to curb the recurring outbreaks and other disasters.”

“Lives and property are precious. It is imperative that we protect and preserve both for sustainable living and economic development. All stakeholders must work together to prevent and mitigate this alarming trend.”

The Olubadan sympathized with traders affected by the Aleshinloye Market inferno, praying for divine replenishment and urging the government to explore ways to mitigate their losses.
