Algeria explores hosting AFRIMA, boosting continental cultural diplomacy

Algeria has formally expressed interest in hosting a future edition of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), signaling a potential expansion of the African Union Commission-backed platform into North Africa.
The interest followed a meeting in Abidjan between Algeria’s Ambassador to Côte d’Ivoire, Mohamed Abdelaziz Bouguetaia, and the 9th AFRIMA Best African DJ winner, DJ Moh Green, who presented his trophy to the envoy alongside AFRIMA Associate Producer Victoria Nkong.
Algeria’s move comes shortly after Côte d’Ivoire indicated its readiness to host a future edition of the awards, reflecting growing continental competition to stage the event.
Commending the artiste, Ambassador Bouguetaia said DJ Moh Green had made Algeria proud by projecting the country’s music across Africa and beyond, adding that Algeria is open to exploring the possibility of hosting AFRIMA.
Victoria Nkong described the expression of interest as a testament to AFRIMA’s growing relevance, noting that the platform was created to unite Africa through music and position the creative industry as a global economic force.
DJ Moh Green described the meeting as emotional and historic, saying presenting his trophy to his country’s ambassador underscored the power of African music to connect governments, creatives and young people.
Algeria’s interest highlights the sustained momentum of AFRIMA as it expands its footprint and strengthens cultural integration, youth empowerment, tourism and creative industry development across the continent.
In partnership with the African Union since 2014, AFRIMA has grown into one of Africa’s biggest music awards platforms, with previous host countries such as Nigeria, Ghana and Senegal recording economic and cultural benefits. Each Awards Week attracts over 5,000 visitors and is broadcast live to audiences in more than 84 countries worldwide.
