Gunmen kill farmer, injure another in Ondo community

By Boye Oyeyemi –
The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a farmer along Agunla Farm Road, Ayede-Ogbese, in Akure North Local Government Area.
DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the command’s spokesperson, disclosed that the incident was reported at about 9:30 p.m. on Monday by a local resident.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased, identified as Ben Daniels, and another man, James Unekwu, were riding a motorcycle to a farm camp when unknown gunmen attacked them.
Jimoh said Unekwu managed to escape, while Daniels was shot and his body dumped by the roadside.
Police operatives promptly moved to the scene, recovered the body and deposited it at the mortuary for autopsy and preservation.
Unekwu is currently under police protective custody as officers investigate the attack and the possibility of a larger conspiracy.
The police have urged residents to remain calm, avoid blocking roads and allow law enforcement officers to carry out their duties, assuring that justice will be served.
Despite the warning, youths in Ayede-Ogbese barricaded the Akure-Owo highway on Tuesday morning, protesting the killing and disrupting traffic in the area.
