The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Osun State Chapter, on Saturday distributed additional operational patrol vehicles to security agencies as part of efforts to strengthen security, improve law enforcement and enhance public safety across the state.
Speaking at the official presentation, the Osun ALGON Chairman, Hon. Samuel Abiodun, described the distribution as the fulfilment of a promise to support security agencies in maintaining peace and order across the state.
Abiodun said the exercise, coming weeks after the first batch of patrol vehicles was unveiled, highlights the commitment of local government councils to the safety and well-being of residents.
He said, “Without peace and stability, no society can thrive, and no government can achieve its developmental goals. Hence, the bold steps taken by the leadership of our councils to support the security formations in the state.
“As the chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Osun State Chapter, I am proud to affirm that local governments remain the closest tier of government to the people. We understand the peculiar security challenges within our communities, and we are determined to support all necessary efforts to address them effectively”.
He said the vehicles would enhance mobility, improve response time and enable security agencies to respond more proactively to security challenges. He urged residents to support security agencies by remaining law-abiding and providing useful information, while charging the beneficiaries to deploy and maintain the vehicles properly.
In his remarks, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, described the presentation of the vehicles as a demonstration of collective commitment to strengthening the state’s security architecture and improving operational efficiency.
Gotan appreciated Osun ALGON for what he described as a strategic intervention, assuring residents that the vehicles would be deployed judiciously to enhance mobility, patrol coverage, intelligence-led operations and inter-agency collaboration in safeguarding lives, property, and maintaining peace across Osun State.
