Alleged exam fraud scandal rocks Ondo Poly

The Ondo State Public Complaints, Financial Crimes and Anti-Corruption Commission has interrogated two lecturers of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic over allegations of examination result manipulation and an alleged administrative cover-up within the institution.

Those questioned by the commission include a Communication-in-English lecturer, Oluwasegun Olowoyo, and a former Head of Department in the Languages Department, Segun Aminu, following a petition forwarded by the Office of the Ondo State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice on January 29, 2026.

The petition accused some staff members and the institution’s management of academic fraud, administrative misconduct and violation of whistleblower protections linked to the handling of examination results.

Investigators were told that Olowoyo allegedly awarded grades in GNS 202 to a student who reportedly did not sit for the examination, while another lecturer was accused of bypassing established academic procedures to alter results.

The petition further claimed that some departmental heads who resisted the alleged irregularities were removed from office, describing the action as retaliatory and an abuse of administrative authority.

In his statement, Olowoyo reportedly admitted inserting a student’s name and score into the result sheet, claiming he acted under pressure from senior colleagues and later regretted the decision, insisting he received no personal benefit.

Aminu, however, denied involvement in the alleged manipulation, maintaining that he neither introduced anyone connected to the incident nor had prior knowledge of the falsified result, adding that he initiated internal procedures after concerns were raised.

Commenting on the development, the commission’s Executive Secretary, Prof. Adewole Adeyeye, described academic result falsification as a grave ethical violation capable of undermining the credibility of academic certificates. He assured that investigations were ongoing and that anyone found culpable would face prosecution, adding that the lecturer involved had been granted bail pending the outcome of the probe.
