Amadou Hott resigns as Special Envoy for AfDB’s Green Infrastructure Alliance

The Special Envoy to the President of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB), Amadou Hott, has resigned from his role overseeing the Alliance for Green Infrastructure in Africa (AGIA) with immediate effect.

Hott, who had been responsible for driving the Alliance’s green infrastructure agenda, stepped down in compliance with the Bank’s regulations, as he prepares to seek the presidency of the AfDB.

In his resignation statement, Hott explained his decision was made to prevent any potential conflict of interest during his campaign for the Bank’s top position. “This decision comes as I intend to seek the Presidency of the African Development Bank, which may create a conflict with my current role at the Bank,” he said.

Hott also praised AfDB President Dr. Akinwumi Adesina’s visionary leadership in establishing AGIA, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to help mobilize resources for the initiative. Under his leadership, AGIA is close to securing $280 million in financial commitments, contributing to Africa’s net-zero transition through green infrastructure investments.

A former Senegalese Minister of Economy, Planning, and Cooperation, Hott was appointed Special Envoy in December 2022. He had previously served as the AfDB’s Vice President for Power, Energy, Green Growth, and Climate Change before joining the Senegalese government.

In response to Hott’s resignation, AfDB President Akinwumi Adesina commended his contributions to AGIA. “As Special Envoy for AGIA, Amadou Hott built effective global partnerships that helped mobilize significant financial commitments. I thank him for his exemplary work and service to the African Development Bank and AGIA,” Adesina stated.
