Amaechi became destitute, unable to fend for his family after leaving office, says APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi over his claim that he could not afford medications for his late mother, describing him as unfit to become Nigeria’s vice-president.
The party, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, also questioned Amaechi’s ability to fend for himself after leaving public office, alleging that he had become financially distressed only three years after leaving government.
The APC said it prayed for the repose of the soul of Amaechi’s mother, Dame Ezinne Mary Oduah Amaechi, who died at the age of 89, while also wishing the former governor good health.
Morka said it was “uncanny” that Amaechi had spoken publicly about his financial difficulties, recalling his earlier claim that he had become so broke that his wife was feeding him.
“First, he howled that he had become so broke and hungry that his wife was now feeding him. Now, he has stated that his inability to afford medications killed his mother at 89,” Morka said.
The APC accused Amaechi of relying on public office for decades and questioned why he could not sustain himself after leaving government.
“For four decades, Rotimi Amaechi freeloaded at the highest levels of public office. He was never hungry and could afford medications for himself and his family,” the party said.
It added that Amaechi had allegedly become “destitute” three years after leaving office and described him as a “loafer, aimless and irresponsible” if he was unable to earn a living outside public office.
