AMGA 2024: Nigeria retains lead, as event nears conclusion

With just one day remaining in the 2024 Africa Military Games held in Abuja, Team Nigeria has firmly maintained its top position on the medal table.
As of the penultimate day, Nigeria has earned a total of 192 medals, consisting of 90 Gold, 56 Silver, and 46 Bronze, keeping them far ahead of their competitors. Algeria is in second place with 93 medals, while Kenya follows in third with 43 medals.
A major highlight for Team Nigeria came in the 100m Hurdles event, where Private Blessing Akpan made history by becoming the country’s first Gold medalist in the event.
Akpan clocked an impressive 15.51 seconds, narrowly defeating Ghana’s Stephanie Abu, who finished with a time of 15.54 seconds. Private Stella Ogu also delivered for Nigeria, securing the Bronze medal in the same event.
Team Nigeria’s dominant performance has solidified their standing as the leaders of the games as the competition enters its final day.
