Amotekun assures Akure residents of safety ahead of festive season

The Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun, has assured residents and commuters that there are no bandits operating in Akure, stressing that security has been beefed up across the state for the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

The Commander of Amotekun, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, assured that the corps has stepped up patrols in all 18 local government areas to safeguard lives and property during the yuletide period.

He noted that the agency runs round-the-clock patrols, supported by special “ember months” operations aimed at preventing crime and ensuring public safety.

Adeleye revealed that Operation “Le Won Jade”, a focused initiative targeting criminals and bandits in forest reserves, has been launched to deny them safe havens.

To further enhance security, an additional 600 operatives have been assigned to motorised patrols across the state, alongside regular exercises and reinforced border monitoring, particularly at entry points with neighbouring states.

“At key locations like Akunu in Akoko North, which borders Kogi State, strict checkpoints have been mounted. Similar measures are enforced along forest boundaries with Edo State and on the Ifon–Benin Road,” Adeleye said.

Responding to viral videos suggesting bandit presence in Akure, the commander dismissed the reports as inaccurate.

“Most of these reports circulating on social media are not current, and many did not even happen in Nigeria. As far as Akure is concerned, there are no bandits in the city. I can say that categorically,” he said, assuring residents that Amotekun remains fully committed to a peaceful and secure festive season.
