Amotekun uncovers 61 stowaways in beans truck, nabs 34 suspects in Ondo

By Boye Oyeyemi –
Operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun) have intercepted 61 suspected migrants concealed inside a truck conveying bags of beans to Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The security outfit also arrested 34 other suspects for various offences, including kidnapping, armed robbery, stealing, breach of the peace and violation of the state’s anti-grazing law.
The Commander of Amotekun in the state, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, said the 61 individuals were discovered hidden inside a trailer and were allegedly heading to Akure North Local Government Area, which has recently been linked to rising criminal activities.
Adeleye disclosed this while parading the suspects before journalists, explaining that although 95 suspects were currently in custody, only 34 had been publicly presented, while the others were undergoing profiling.
According to him, 12 suspects were arrested for kidnapping-related offences in areas such as Ilu-Abo, Ayede-Akure, Iloro Camp and Ogbese, while three others were apprehended for breaching the anti-grazing law.
He added that 19 suspects were picked up for offences bordering on breaches of law and order during coordinated security operations across the state.
The commander explained that the arrests followed weeks of joint operations involving Amotekun personnel and other security agencies, alongside intensified surveillance of forests and major highways.
Adeleye further stated that security operatives had established static posts in kidnapping-prone areas and, working with local vigilantes and community monitors, had successfully foiled several abduction attempts, while reaffirming the corps’ commitment to tackling crime across Ondo State.
