Angela Okorie remanded in Suleja prison amid ongoing Mercy Johnson feud

By Folashade Olorunfemi –

Nollywood actress Angela Okorie was arrested in Lagos on Tuesday by operatives from the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID), following a recent public feud with colleague Mercy Johnson.

The Lagos State Police spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed her arrest, stating that Okorie was taken into custody by the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Center (NPF-NCCC) in Abuja.

Filmmaker and rights activist Ajemba Stanley condemned the arrest on Instagram, revealing that Angela was charged in court on Wednesday and remanded in Suleja Prison. He described the move as a misuse of power.

“You arrested Angela Okorie at midnight yesterday, flew her to Abuja by 6 a.m., and this morning she was taken to court and remanded in Suleja Prison. How can the judiciary work this fast? Angela, I will never forsake you. I am coming to Abuja to secure your release,” he wrote in a post.

Ajemba urged that proper judicial procedures be followed, advising that the plaintiff should pursue a defamation case if there were any grievances, rather than “using the Nigerian police to oppress Nigerians.” He also warned that human rights organisations were monitoring the matter.

The police are yet to release an official statement detailing the charges against Angela, but reports indicate they may be linked to her long-standing public feud with Mercy Johnson. Angela had claimed that Mercy was afflicted with an ailment she would not wish on her enemies and accused her of hypocrisy, saying her public use of “church words” hid her true character.

Mercy Johnson responded briefly on social media to critics of her wellbeing before disengaging from the public dispute.

Angela had previously been invited into police custody in 2025 following a separate crisis involving Senator Ned Nwoko and his now-estranged wife, Regina Daniels.
