APC, Accord Party trade accusations over Osogbo secretariat attack

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Accord Party in Osun State have traded accusations over an alleged attack on the latter’s secretariat in Osogbo following an incident in which suspected gunmen reportedly stormed the party office along the Osogbo/Gbongan Road on Sunday night, damaging parts of the building.

The attackers were said to have fired several gunshots at the office, leaving some glass windows shattered.

There had been speculation in some quarters that the attack may have been carried out by an aggrieved aspirant within the party following internal disagreements among members.

However, reacting to the incident, the spokesperson of the Accord Party, Oladele Bamiji, dismissed claims that the attack was linked to internal crisis within the party, insisting there was no disagreement capable of triggering such an incident.

Bamiji alleged that the attackers were political thugs sponsored by the opposition APC to intimidate residents and create chaos in the state.

“We are managing whatever we have in our party perfectly democratically. There is no escalation of crisis that will warrant anyone carrying a gun to the party secretariat in the dead of the night and start shooting at the facilities there,” he said.

But a member of the media committee of the APC Campaign Council, Comrade Kehinde Ayantunji, denied the allegation, describing it as false and regrettable. He also dismissed the incident as a “staged and dramatised attack” allegedly aimed at gaining public sympathy ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election.

Ayantunji called on the police to invite leaders of the Accord Party to identify those allegedly behind the attack, insisting that claims of gun possession and sporadic shooting were serious criminal allegations that should be backed with official evidence.
