Gani Adams renews call for state police over rising insecurity
The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, has called on the Federal Government to approve the establishment of state police to tackle rising insecurity across the country.
Adams made the call on Monday evening while speaking during News Central’s Politics HQ programme, where he expressed concerns over increasing security threats in the South-West region.
According to him, recent attacks and security breaches indicate that criminal groups and terrorists are intensifying their activities in the region.
“The terrorists have decided to bombard the South-West. State police is essential,” Adams said.
He stressed that the current security structure requires urgent reforms, adding that decentralised policing would improve intelligence gathering and response time at the local level.
The Yoruba leader also urged residents to cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious movements and activities within their communities to the appropriate authorities.
Adams further called on governors in the South-West to strengthen collaboration with local institutions and community-based security structures to improve safety across the region.
He maintained that stronger cooperation between governments, traditional institutions and residents would help address insecurity and protect lives and property in the South-West.
