APC accuses Tambuwal, opposition leaders of failing Nigerians

By Kunle Sanni –

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused former Sokoto State governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, and other opposition leaders of being the real problem with the opposition in Nigeria.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the ruling party dismissed Tambuwal’s recent claims that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC were plotting to destabilize opposition parties.

Tambuwal, a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, had in a televised interview alleged that the ruling party was behind efforts to weaken opposition groups, while boasting of victory over Tinubu and the APC in the next general election.

But the APC described the remarks as baseless, insisting that Tambuwal, alongside former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, had failed to provide effective leadership for their parties.

“It is now clear to Nigerians that the present crop of opposition leaders have lost focus—assuming they ever had any—aside from their compulsive and obsessive crave for power and patronage,” the statement read.

The ruling party argued that genuine opposition should be about holding government accountable and offering credible policy alternatives, not “bandying false narratives, peddling lies, and engaging in smear campaigns.”

On Tambuwal’s ongoing investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the APC maintained that no opposition leader is above the law, dismissing his suggestion that the probe into alleged ₦189 billion illegal cash withdrawals was politically motivated.

The statement further accused opposition leaders of presiding over “rudderless” parties that are losing members in droves, and of being unable to unite even as they attempt to build coalitions.
