APC chieftain warns opposition against blackmailing Tinubu over EFCC probes
Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun, has cautioned opposition politicians against using ongoing investigations by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as a tool to blackmail President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking with journalists on Sunday in Osogbo, Oyintiloye, a former lawmaker and member of the defunct APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), said the probes being conducted by the anti-graft agency were strictly constitutional and in line with international best practices.
He explained that the investigations, which involve some former governors and political appointees from opposition parties, were based on petitions against them and should not be misconstrued as politically motivated.
The APC stalwart stressed that membership of opposition parties does not grant immunity from financial investigations, noting that ruling party members have also faced EFCC scrutiny whenever allegations were raised against them.
Oyintiloye maintained that the EFCC has a statutory mandate to investigate public office holders across party lines without bias, favoritism, or political interference.
He therefore urged opposition figures under investigation to focus on proving their innocence rather than dragging the President into their cases, warning that blackmail would not derail the anti-graft campaign.
“The EFCC has a mandate to investigate financial infractions against anyone, irrespective of political affiliation. Linking the President to the agency’s work in the name of politics is totally wrong,” he said.
Oyintiloye described President Tinubu as a man of honour and integrity who would not compromise his ideals, adding that more corrupt politicians seeking refuge in opposition parties to avoid accountability would still be exposed.
