APC Convention: Gbadegesin advocates expanded leadership roles for women in Oyo

Former Oyo State Commissioner for Health and public sector reform advocate, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, has called for increased female participation in party leadership and governance following a strategic meeting with leaders of the Oyo State All Progressives Congress (APC) Women’s Wing in Abuja.
The meeting, held on the sidelines of the recent APC National Convention, focused on strengthening women’s involvement in party organisation, grassroots mobilisation, and leadership structures across Oyo State.
Participants described the engagement as constructive and forward-looking, noting that it provided an opportunity to identify practical steps toward improving internal coordination and expanding leadership opportunities for women within the party.
Observers said the discussion highlighted the growing recognition of women as key stakeholders in party development and governance, particularly in efforts to enhance representation and institutional participation within the APC in Oyo State.
Speaking at the meeting, Gbadegesin commended the women leaders for their consistent commitment to party growth and community engagement, stressing that sustainable political progress in the state depends largely on the active involvement of women at all levels of leadership and decision-making.
Those in attendance included Mrs. Felicia Opatunde, Oyo State APC Women Leader; Alhaja Fatima Hassan, State Deputy Women Leader; Dr. Adepeju Esan, former member of the Oyo State House of Assembly; and Alhaja Ramota Okemakinde, also a former lawmaker, alongside other senior women leaders.
Stakeholders at the convention noted that the meeting was part of a broader series of consultations among party leaders and delegates aimed at fostering unity, strengthening internal cohesion, and positioning the party for future political developments in Oyo State.
