APC denies claim of being declared terrorist organisation by Canadian court

By Kunle Sanni –

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed reports that a Canadian court declared the party a terrorist organisation, describing the claims as false and misleading.

In a statement issued on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC said the judgment in question — Douglas Egharevba vs. Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness — made no such finding.

According to Morka, the June 17, 2025, decision by Judge Phuong T.V. Ngo merely upheld the Canadian Immigration Appeal Division’s ruling that the applicant was inadmissible to Canada because of his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which the court described as engaged in “acts of subversion.”

“For the avoidance of doubt, the court never made any determination on the question of terrorism,” Morka said, quoting the judge’s words: “Having found that the IAD’s analysis on subversion was reasonable, this is sufficient to dismiss the application for review. I will therefore refrain from analyzing the IAD’s findings on terrorism.”

He explained that the only reference to the APC in the entire 16-page decision appeared in a background paragraph summarising the applicant’s claim of past party affiliations — a claim the APC described as false, since the party did not exist in 2007 when the applicant alleged he was a member.

Morka stressed that the APC was not a party to the case and that the court neither had jurisdiction nor any basis to make a finding of terrorism against it.

“Reports that APC was declared a terrorist organisation by the Canadian court are patently erroneous, if not mischievous. The court did not, and could not, have made such a declaration,” he said.

The APC urged its members, supporters, and Nigerians at large to disregard the reports, describing them as “highly erroneous media fabrications.”
