Musawa launches Nigeria’s first digital museum to showcase national heritage

The Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, has unveiled the NCMM Digital Museum, a groundbreaking platform that transforms how Nigerians connect with their cultural heritage.
The new initiative offers, for the first time, authentic Nigerian antiquities and artistic masterpieces in an immersive online space. With just a click, users anywhere in the world can explore the country’s rich history and artistry, regardless of their location or background.
Speaking at the launch, Musawa described the project as “telling our stories ourselves, in an authentic fashion,” noting that it represents a major step toward reclaiming and celebrating Nigeria’s identity through technology.

The NCMM Digital Museum is the first comprehensive national effort to create a unified, interactive digital repository of the country’s cultural treasures. It aims to serve as a central hub for education, research, and cultural preservation.
Musawa commended the Director-General of the National Commission for Museums and Monuments (NCMM), Olugbile Holloway, and his team for bringing the vision to life. She also expressed appreciation to the International Humanitarian Support Nigeria (IHS Nigeria) for its consistent support throughout the process.

The minister emphasised that the platform will not only showcase heritage but also serve as a tool for national unity, tourism promotion, and creative industry development.
According to the NCMM, the digital museum will continue to expand with more artefacts, artworks, and interactive features, ensuring that Nigeria’s cultural heritage is preserved for future generations.
The launch marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s cultural policy, blending tradition with innovation to make heritage accessible to all.
