APC governors rally for economic growth, security, party unity

Governors elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC) have called on the Federal Government to deepen the country’s economic recovery through expanded investments in key sectors.

The call was made on Saturday after the conclusion of the forum’s regional meeting in Benin City, Edo State, which also formally welcomed Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, into the group.

Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF) and Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, who read the communique, said the governors acknowledged the improving economy but stressed the need for more investments in food security, job creation, MSMEs, and poverty reduction.

Uzodinma noted that the governors welcomed increased fiscal transfers to states and the renewed investor confidence in Nigeria’s economy. He added that states would build on this momentum by delivering infrastructure that enhances productivity and inter-state competitiveness.

The forum commended security agencies for their efforts in tackling insecurity and pledged continued support for President Tinubu’s security initiatives, especially in crisis-hit states like Benue and Niger.

The governors advocated for stronger inter-agency cooperation, grassroots intelligence gathering, community policing, and better welfare for security personnel.

On party matters, the PGF acknowledged the resignation of APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, describing it as part of the party’s internal growth and evolution. They reaffirmed their commitment to a united and prosperous Nigeria.

The two-day meeting concluded with a courtesy visit to the Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare II, who urged the governors to be drivers of growth and development, followed by a town hall meeting with APC stakeholders from across the country.
