APC Ondo South candidate Kekemeke dismisses rift with Aiyedatiwa, backs party unity

The All Progressives Congress senatorial candidate for Ondo South, Dr. Isaacs Kekemeke, has dismissed reports of a disagreement between him and Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, describing the speculation as an attempt by political opponents to create division within the party.

Kekemeke, a former APC National Vice Chairman, South-West, spoke with journalists in Akure while reacting to reports that Aiyedatiwa had withdrawn his support for his candidacy ahead of the senatorial election.

The reports followed an alleged meeting in Okitipupa where some APC members were said to have endorsed another candidate, but Kekemeke maintained that the governor remained committed to his candidacy and supported his emergence during the party’s primary.

He said, “Nothing has happened between me and the governor to change gear. There is no friction. The governor supported me during the primaries and did everything possible to ensure that I emerged victorious.”

Kekemeke described Aiyedatiwa as his benefactor and the leader of the APC in Ondo State, stressing that their relationship remained cordial despite the speculation surrounding the party’s senatorial contest.

He also downplayed the significance of the reported Okitipupa meeting, noting that those behind it had not clearly established the political platform or candidate they were endorsing.

Furthermore, Kekemeke dismissed suggestions that the governor could support another candidate, arguing that it would be illogical for the leader of the APC in the state to campaign against the party’s official candidate.

Kekemeke expressed confidence in the APC’s strength in Ondo South and urged party members to remain united and avoid actions capable of undermining the party’s chances in the senatorial district.
