Two operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, have been killed after gunmen ambushed them in Akure North Local Government Area of the state.
The attack reportedly took place on August 11, 2026, around the Ago-Oyinbo farming settlement in the Ala Daadaa area, shortly after the officers left their operational base.
On the day of the attack, the assailants reportedly opened fire on the operatives, leading to a gun battle. Two officers were killed in the confrontation, while another sustained injuries.
Confirming the incident on Friday, the Amotekun spokesperson, S.A. Jimoh, said the command had deployed additional personnel to the area immediately after the attack to track the perpetrators.
Jimoh said security operations had also been stepped up in the area through increased patrols and intelligence gathering to forestall further attacks and reassure residents.
The corps described the deceased officers as brave personnel who died while protecting lives and property, and commiserated with their families, colleagues and loved ones.
Addressing the public, Amotekun urged residents to remain alert and share useful information with security agencies, stressing that it would work with other formations to identify and apprehend those behind the attack.
Responding, the families of the slain operatives thanked the Ondo State Government and Amotekun management for their support and burial arrangements, while appealing for consideration of their relatives in future recruitment and other available benefits.
