APC, PDP clash over alleged plot to undermine LGAs in Osun

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led state government of plotting to cripple local government administration through the courts.

Specifically, the APC alleged that the state government is seeking a court order to stop the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from releasing funds to local government councils led by APC-reinstated chairmen. However, the PDP slammed the APC for what it described as persistent blackmail of the judiciary, daring the opposition to provide evidence of any PDP court action against the CBN.

In a statement signed by the Osun State APC Director of Media and Information, Chief Kola Olabisi, on Thursday, the opposition claimed that the PDP government is seeking an interim injunction from the Federal High Court, Osogbo, to further destabilize local government administration in the state.

Olabisi referenced Suit No. FHC/OS/CS/94/2025, allegedly filed by the state’s Attorney-General, which reportedly seeks to restrain the CBN from releasing local government allocations. He described the move as a desperate attempt by the state government or its agents in the PDP to heat up the polity.

He added that rather than resorting to legal tactics, the state government should approach the Supreme Court to seek relief from the Court of Appeal judgment that reinstated local government chairmen and councillors elected on the APC platform in 2022.

In a swift reaction, the Osun PDP, through its Director of Media and Publicity, Hezekiah Olabamiji, accused the APC of persistently blackmailing the judiciary, noting that the opposition is fearful that its alleged illegal occupation of local governments is nearing an end.

Olabamiji asserted that the Federal High Court judgment sacking the APC council chairmen still stands and that the APC only rushed to appeal the ruling after realizing its implications.

He emphasized that the state government will deploy all legal means to flush out what it described as illegal occupants of local government secretariats across the state, adding, “We believe the CBN will not relate with impostors occupying local governments, as there is no legal basis for such action.”
