APC candidate faces backlash over alleged distribution of sachet alcohol

…as party accuses PDP of falsehood

By Adejayan Gbenga –

Controversy has trailed the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate for the forthcoming Ibadan North Federal Constituency bye-election, Adewale Murphy Olatunji, over claims that sachet alcohol was shared to residents as campaign souvenirs.

Reports of the alleged distribution have drawn criticism from community members and civic groups, who described the gesture as disrespectful to the values of Ibadan North.

Critics also labelled it socially irresponsible, raising concerns about alcohol abuse and its associated health risks in the area.

Reacting to the allegation, the Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State APC, Olawale Sadare, denied any involvement by the party or its candidate.

He accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of fabricating the claims to divert attention from the APC’s issue-based campaign ahead of Saturday’s election.

Sadare said, “The claim by PDP is baseless. We have no knowledge of such souvenirs being distributed. This is a diversionary tactic.”

The Ibadan North bye-election is expected to be closely contested, with both parties intensifying their campaigns in the final days before the polls.
