APC’s internal machine strong enough to handle defectors, says Yilwatda

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has dismissed concerns that the influx of politicians from opposition parties could trigger internal crises within the ruling party.

Speaking during a media chat with journalists in Abuja, Yilwatda expressed confidence in the party’s internal structures, insisting that the APC has developed a strong mechanism to manage competing interests among its expanding membership.

When asked whether the wave of defections could lead to internal implosion, he said the party has already proven its ability to handle potential flashpoints.

“No. If you look at our congresses, the opposition predicted that our party would collapse due to self-implosion. However, we successfully managed the interests of all stakeholders, governors, members of the National Assembly, and other party members in an equitable manner,” he said.

According to him, the APC’s stability is rooted in what he described as a unique and effective internal conflict-resolution framework.

“I believe no political party in Nigeria has a conflict-resolution mechanism like ours,” he added.

Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, Yilwatda expressed optimism that the APC would emerge victorious, citing its dominance across key voting blocs nationwide.

He specifically identified Kano and Katsina states as strongholds of the ruling party.
