Armed attack in Iluabo leaves victims injured, one abducted, police confirm

The Ondo State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state following a violent incident in the Iluabo area on Sunday evening, 25th January 2026.
According to a statement signed on Monday by DSP Abayomi Jimoh, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ondo State Command, six unidentified armed men ambushed a resident, John Ofuduwa, around 8:00 pm as he drove into his compound in a Toyota Camry saloon with Abuja registration number GWA 674 CM. Mr. Ofuduwa sustained a gunshot injury during the attack.
In the same incident, a neighbour, Oladeinde Tomilola, was abducted while attempting to enter her home. Two other individuals, Victoria and her 11-year-old daughter, Victoria Olorunfemi, who were passing through the area, also sustained varying degrees of gunshot injuries. All victims were promptly taken to hospital for treatment.

In response, Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, visited the scene to assess the situation and engage with residents. He condemned the attack and assured the public that tactical and intelligence-driven measures have been reinforced to ensure the swift arrest of the perpetrators and prevent future incidents.
CP Lawal also visited the palace of His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Samuel Oluyemi Falae, the Oluabo of Iluabo, who condemned the attack and pledged full support to the police. The monarch committed to mobilising community vigilante groups to complement security efforts and urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities.
The assessment was joined by Brig. Gen. Justin Ifeanyi, Commander of the 32 Brigade Artillery of the Nigerian Army, who assured full support for the rescue of the abducted victim and the apprehension of the attackers.
The Ondo State Police Command emphasised that effective policing relies on collaboration between security agencies and the public, urging residents to report credible information that could aid investigations.
The command confirmed that intensive efforts are ongoing in partnership with the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services (DSS), and other agencies to secure the safe release of the abducted victim and bring the attackers to justice.
